Painting 1

Many things around the house can be done on your own... and it's not that hard really.... it can be quite fun too =D

Tools:
1) Scrapper
2) Sand paper
3) Red oxide paint
4) Thinner (to clean brush)
5) Piece of wood or chopsticks (to mix paint... i used a screwdriver)
6) Paint (I used pewter colour this round)
7) Newspaper (to line the floor)

Today I fixed up a garden rack. This can be applied to any metal that is rusty but not brittle yet. As long as if you give it a good tap and it does not break, it can still be saved...

Before work

After scrapping off old paint and painting with red oxide paint

Paint is removed by scrapper and then rust is removed using sand paper. Make sure the surfaces are even. Then give the whole structure a good wipe to remove any rust dust and let it dry before painting it. The red oxide paint is to prevent further rusting....

The step (until the red oxide) took less than 2 hours. And each layer of paint took about 10 minutes. It is pure satisfaction to see it look as good as new =D (always take pictures before and after a project to see the difference)

A few hints to share...

1) make sure that there are no paint drips on the metal as those chip of easily and is prone to

2) weigh down newspaper or it will fly and stick to your newly painted structure

3) have enough room around your project so that you can view it from all angles (to make sure you do not miss any spots)

4) one layer of paint maybe sufficient if it is good. As in my project, I did not see any difference between the first and second layer

5) the structure must be clean and dry before painting to ensure that the paint stick to the structure properly... otherwise it will come off easily and be a wasted effort...

p/s - this is painting 1 because it is the easier project... I'll be attempting to paint my house gate next... attempting being the operative word.... we'll see how it goes =D
