Old School vs New School

The only camera in my house is a Minolta Dynax 800 Si which uses film. Previously there was a digital camera but it crashed a few years back.... after getting the digital camera, the film SLR was collecting dust until I rescued it recently. The main reason was because it was the only camera available.... the plan was to learn using that then get a DSLR when my finances allows me to...

However, there have been people trying to convince me that film is much better... because of a lot of reasons.... it is cheaper (the camera, though there's continuous cost in terms of film and processing), the colour is better (especially if film such as provia or velvia is used), the shots are better, and so on...

But today something else convinced me that sometimes old school can surpass newer technology. I woke up to my mom asking 'where is the old weighing machine (right)?'... in my sleepy state I was wondering why she wanted the old one when she has a digital weighing machine (left). Turned out the digital ran out of battery...

It is strange that as technology speeds ahead, people tend to forget the basics.... someone actually asked me how to use the old weighing machine... True the digital is a lot easier to use... but in time of crisis, old school still preservers....

Similar to my camera, after more than a decade old, being abandoned for a couple of years, not able to hold its own flash light up, handle grip layer breaking (fixed using masking tape)... it is still functioning and is able to take good pictures...

(note to self: learn to drive manual car... even if it's just for the sake of knowing how to)
