People always ask what is 'Food Studies'..... Is it food science? Well everyone heared of Food Science and Technology but my course is rather new to people. Basically we learn anything and everything to do with the food industry. It trains us to be managers as a start.... and for entrepeunurs, we will probably end up as restaurant/factory owners.

Then maybe some will go... 'well then why not just take a business degree?'... but the food industry is a thriving industry on its own.... and as people get more health concious and food safety is a very big issue... hence we are groomed to handle the complex food industry.

But that is way in the future... currently? I go through a variety of subjects that occasionally seem irrelavant (accounting, microbiology, finance, food processing, etc.) This sem the interesting subject would be food chemistry where we study about how food react and what products is produced. To know how each component react would be able to detact source of problems in recipes... and also probably to creat new ones =D

Here are some of our experiments:

Soya bean milk (this is the first filter)
Followed by a second filter and pasturized in a pressure steamer
Milk is added with coagulate then poured into this container

Water is used to press the container
(some of the guys practically hand-stood on it to get it pressed)
Ta-da! Taufu!

Can you guess what machine this is?
(I'll tell you next time hehe)

Btw, if you have not done so yet, please help me complete the following survey on molecular gastronomy for my term project. Thanks!
