2010...... a new decade..... suddenly thought of the changes that occurred. Back in primary school, friends always hand out chinese new year cards..... then in secondary school, phones were all the rage and so were sms wishes..... and now, in university, friends even save on phone charges and wish on facebook instead ^.^
2010...... a year to achieve 10 goals that I have set..... I put it as a goal rather than a resolution because resolution is more of a change in way of life..... I like my way of life.... just pushing myself further
Yesterday I watched 'Pursuit of Happiness'. A rather sad story. Talking about one of the rights in the Declaration of Independence which is the the title of the movie. Will Smith as the main character was wondering why was there the 'pursuit' in front of happiness but the other rights were simply 'life' and 'liberty'. Is it that we are only allowed to pursue but never to actually attain happiness?
Personally, happiness is more of a state of mind. It occurs when we are satisfied with our current conditions of life. People pursue happiness when they want something, and if they do not get it, then they are not happy. Sometimes in that pursuit, they forget the things they already have and should be grateful for..... in the movie it is relevant since the main character seems to hit rock bottom. But most of us will never (hopefully) be in that condition, so count your blessings.
There was also a small story in that movie. It goes something like this:
One day there was a man drowning in the river. A boat came by and offered its help. The man said 'No thanks. God will save me'. So the boat went off. A few moments later, another boat came along and offered its help. The man said the same thing to the second boat. So in the end, the man drown. In his after-life, he asked, 'Why did God not save me?' God answered 'I gave you two boats did I not??'
God help those who help themselves. Do not expect Him to appear just to pull you out of trouble. Help can come in many ways and sometimes not obviously hence the phrase 'a blessing in disguise'.
Thomas A. Edison once said 'Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work'. Very wise words..... so buck up people! A new year! New opportunities! Be happy, be healthy, and be wealthy!
